Responsible for all activities associated with running the single-facer and assisting in wet-end and dry-end functions, including setup, operation, clean-up, and recommending improvements to operations. The employee will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards in the areas of quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction and productivity.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsible for waste reduction on the corrugator
- Operate the single facer to produce the highest level of production (performance) and quality.
- Produce single face that meet with company and customer quality specifications
- The operator is responsible for working with the Dry End Operators and Wet End Operators to ensure good and efficient productivity
- Check wet end line-ups to verify correct roll stock is received and used.
- Put rolls of paper in reel stands ensuring correct size and grade of paper to be run and make splices and paper changes as necessary.
- Work with the Clamp Operator to ensure the correct paper is used and recorded
- Continuously monitor web and board during runs to ensure quality and making adjustments as necessary
- Responsible for single facer machine cleaning maintenance schedules
- Trim only the necessary amount of paper from the rolls when preparing for splices.
- Remove roll stock from the machine when necessary and mark balance of part and butt roll sizes, grade, diameter, and lineal and place core plugs
- Stripping of paper balance on cores before sending to waste trolleys
- Turn in maintenance job cards to supervisors for needed repairs.
- Assist in the wet end training of the Double backer and dry end personnel.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Assist where required at the board machine
- Additional duties may be assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years’ experience on corrugator wet end, as a single facer operator or related to wet end function
- Minimum completed Grade 12 (Matric)
- Completed trade test in corrugator board manufacturing an advantage
- Solid understanding of different grades and flutes
- Must have a working knowledge of:
- Product layouts and production specifications
- Product quality specifications and Quality standards
- Safety and quality knowledge
